Even though I work for myself and schedule my clients in a way that fits my personal and family schedule I still experience the pressure (and desire!) to perform and create certain level of income. And fact I remember talking to one of my girlfriends several months ago about taking time off. I confided with her, “There is no way I could take ever take an entire day off for myself. It’s just not possible with the number of clients I have, my business obligations, family obligations and taking care of my son. And I just wouldn’t feel right paying for a nanny while I went out and played!” Read more

In the heat of the moment it often seems like the other person is at fault. However, when we believe that other people are the source of our feelings, we are unintentionally giving away our power to change our situation and instead are left with waiting for others to change. Read more

“It’s my husband’s responsibility to pay most of the bills,” the voice inside my head stubbornly insisted as
we were discussing money in our marriage.
Chris (my husband) and I had just finished discussing our anticipated expenses and income for the coming month. To our dismay – but not complete surprise – there was once again a shortfall. We looked at the calendar to see where he could squeeze in a few more solo performances to make up the difference. Fortunately, his career as a professional singer/songwriter gave him the flexibility to book extra performances. However, challenges with scheduling sometimes made this difficult.

In his book, “Success Principles,” Jack Canfield shares a story about working with W. Clement
Stone, a self-made millionaire worth $600 million in 1969. He tells how Mr. Stone pulled him aside one day and asked him if he took 100% responsibility for his life. Jack stutters, “I think so.” Stone replies, “This is a yes or no question, you either do or you don’t.” Jack goes on to assure him that he does indeed take responsibility for his life.
